1882 to 1884 Henry’s father John establishes the Jam Manufacturing business.
11th April 1887 Lily born at 131 Reather Street Manchester to Alfred and Sophia Whittaker a Beer Retailer.
1891 to 1893 Henry moves from Princess Street Wallgate Wigan to Southport aged 11 to 13.
1901 In Census Henry is recorded as an Assistant Jam Manufacturer aged 20, presumably with his father John and brother Thomas at Mawdsley’s Jams.
1911 In Census Henry is recorded as an Assistant At Jam Works aged 30, presumably with his father John at Mawdsley’s Jams. Henry’s younger brothers are both Commercial Travellers, possibly for Mawdsley’s Jams.
1911 to 1913 Henry styles himself as Jam Manufacturer, presumably meaning he became a joint Director of Mawdsley’s Jams.
15th October 1913 Henry and Lily married at St Athanasius Walton Liverpool. Henry is a Jam Manufacturer aged 32 living with his parents at 18 Ash Street Southport, Lily is aged 26 living at 81 Westminster Road Liverpool, her father is dead, last occupation was a Publican. Henry’s sister Sarah was a witness.
1914-1918 No First World War service records can be found for Henry.
29th June 1916 Daughter Lilian Mary born at 37 Fisher Drive Southport, Henry is a Jam Manufacturer.
18th November 1918 Daughter Joan born at 48 Ash Street Southport, Henry is a Jam Manufacturer. Henry’s parents lived at 18 Ash Street Southport.
10th January 1919 Henry’s father John dies on a train from Wigan to Southport. Wigan Examiner reports then John had felt ill and phoned Henry to accompany him home but John was in a First Class Carriage and Henry was in a different carriage. Henry had to convey John’s body home.
15th or 22nd January 1919 Henry’s father John buried at Duke Street Cemetery Southport. Henry was in attendance.
1919 Henry presumably takes control at Mawdsley’s Jams, possibly jointly with his brothers Thomas and Richard.
19th June 1921 Census. Family living at 48 Ash Street Southport, Henry is aged 40 a Jam Manufacturer, Lily is aged 34, daughter Lilian is aged 4 and daughter Joan is aged 2. No servant is recorded living with them.
29th September 1939 Register. Family living at 61 Row Lane Southport, Henry is aged 58 a “Jam Boiler Maker”, Lily is aged 52, daughter Lilian cannot be found in the register and daughter Joan is a Bank Ledger Clerk.
1st November 1941 Daughter Lilian marries Thomas McCulloch Moore at Carlisle Register Office. Thomas is aged 39 a widowed Commision Agent “Turf?” living at a hotel in Carlisle, Lilian is aged 25 possibly a School Teacher, also living at a hotel in Carlisle. They have one child and live in Keighley. Lilian dies on 27th January 2003 at Airedale General Hospital Keighley aged 86 of Renal Impairment. She was living at Kirkwood Residential Home Ilkley and had been a Teacher. Her daughter Rosalind Joan Blackburn from Ilkley was the informant.
2nd June 1944 Henry dies aged 63 at Roe Lane Southport of a Coronary Embolism. Occupation was Jam Manufacturer and informant was his brother “J Mawdsley” (either James or John) who was also present at the death.
1944 Henry is buried at Duke Street Cemetery Southport, notes on records say “Known as ‘Harry’”.
4th August 1944 Henry’s probate granted, his residence given as “The Dingle” 61 Roe Lane Southport. His worth was £336k in current money, left to his wife Lily, brother Thomas and sister Sarah.
22nd January 1949 Daughter Joan marries John Hamer Vickers at Holy Trinity Southport. John is aged 29 an Electrical Engineer from 43 Knowsley Road Ormskirk and Joan is aged 29 from 69 Roe Lane Southport. John and Joan have 3 children and live in Southport. Joan dies on 3rd July 2011 aged 92 of Parkinsons at Sunningdale Albany Road Southport.
4th July 1976 Lily dies aged 89 at 14 Park Avenue Southport of Myocardial Degeneration. Informant was daughter Joan.
1976 Lily buried at Duke Street Cemetery Southport in same grave as Henry.
