2nd July 1886 Mary Emma born in Antwerp to John Carves Stewart a Marine Engineer.
4th April 1889 John born in Princess Street Wallgate Wigan to John and Mary Mawdsley a Jam Manufacturer.
1891 to 1893 John’s family move from Princess Street Wallgate Wigan to Southport.
1911 In census John is aged 21 an Engineer Fitter.
1914 to 1918 No first world war service record can be found for John.
10th January 1919 John’s father John dies on train from Wigan to Southport.
15th or 22nd January 1919 John’s father John buried at Duke Street Cemetery Southport. Wigan Examiner reported “Jack and Evan who are in the Naval service, happened to be at home when the sad event occurred” so John was in the Royal Navy at the time.
17th July 1920 John and Mary Emma married at St Philip Southport. John is aged 31 a 2nd Engineer “R M M” of 18 Ash Street Southport (it is not clear what “R M M” means it could be Mercantile Marine) and Mary Emma is aged 34 of 9 Crescent Road Southport. John’s sister Sarah is a witness.
19th June 1921 Census. John and Mary Emma living at 9 Crescent Road Southport (same address that Mary Emma gave in wedding certificate). John is aged 31 a Salesman Director for The Tubular Gate Co Ltd of 241 Lord Street Southport and Mary Emma is aged 34. They have a General Domestic Servant Lillian Bollon aged 22.
10th October 1931 John’s mother Mary dies aged 80 at 18 Ash Street Southport.
29th September 1939 Register. John and Mary Emma living at 264 Perth Road Ilford Essex. John is aged 50 a Building Society Branch Manager and Mary Emma is aged 53. They have a Cook Elizabeth Conelly aged 65. Maybe Mary Emma was incapacitated.
7th November 1939 Mary Emma dies aged 53 at 264 Perth Road Ilford Essex of Heart Failure. John was present at the death.
2nd June 1944 John’s brother Henry dies aged 63 in Southport.
7th February 1955 John’s brother Thomas dies aged 72.
12th May 1959 John dies aged 70 at Seaman’s Hospital Greenwich of Heart Disease. His residence was still 264 Perth Road Ilford Essex and his occupation was given as 2nd Engineer “M N” (which probably means Merchant Navy) which he hadn’t been for 39 years. Informant was a P Willson a brother in law. In his probate the beneficiary was a Dorothy Ada Mawdsley who cannot be found.
