4th June 1883 Evan’s sister Ellen dies aged 11 at Fleece Hotel Central Wigan, Evan is aged 5.
25th March 1886 Ellen born at Florence Cottage Avenue Road South Stoneham Southampton to Henry and Jane Wilsher, Henry is an Optician.
16th October 1889 Evan’s mother Jenet dies at Fleece Inn Central Wigan, Evan is aged 12.
12th March 1891 Evan’s father Evan marries Ellen Crook. Evan is aged 13.

17th September 1904 Evan and Mary married at St Mark Newtown Wigan. Evan is aged 27 an Accountant living at 22 Peckham Road Camberwell London and Mary is aged 21 living at Mitchell Street Newtown Wigan. Evan and Mary live in London.
11th January 1905 Daughter Janet Hart (named after Evan’s mother Jenet) born at 310 Camberwell New Road Camberwell London, Evan is a Chartered Accountant. Mary had been pregnant when Evan and Mary married.
17th May 1905 Evan’s step-mother Ellen dies aged 38 at Fleece Hotel Central Wigan.
1905 to 1906 Evan and Mary move back to Wigan and take over running of Fleece Hotel Central Wigan. Maybe something to do with Evan’s step-mother dying?
9th November 1906 Daughter Tryphena (named after Evan’s dead sister) born at Fleece Hotel Central Wigan, Evan is a Licensed Victualler living there.
23rd November 1907 Wigan Examiner reports that Licence for Fleece Hotel Central Wigan is transfered from Evan’s father Evan to a Thomas Green.
1907 to 1908 Evan and Mary move back to London.
1st May 1908 Son Evan born at 1 Eastcote Terrace Stockwell London, Evan is an Accountant.
27th February 1911 Evan’s father Evan dies in Coppull leaving several young adult children, step-siblings of Evan.
2nd April 1911 Census. Family living at 19 Studley Road Clapham, Evan is aged 33 an Accountant, Mary is 28, daughter Janet is aged 6, daughter Tryphena is aged 4 and son Evan is aged 2. Also living with them is Evan’s step-sister Clarissa aged 15.
1914-1918 No first world war service record can be found for Evan.
2nd March 1919 Mary dies aged 36 at 19 Headcorn Road Thornton Heath London of Pulmonary Tuberculosis (18 months duration). Evan, aged 41, was present at the death. Mary is buried in Croydon Cemetery. Daughter Janet is aged 14, daughter Tryphena is aged 12, son Evan is aged 10.
12th June 1920 Evan and Ellen are married at Christ Church Croydon, Evan is aged 42 an Accountant from 19 Headcorn Road Thornton Heath London and Ellen is aged 34 from Angell Road Brixton. Evan’s brother Henry (also living in London) was a witness.
10th March 1921 Son Francis born at 8 Stanford Road Croydon. Evan is a Chartered Accountant. Ellen is the informant living at 19 Headcorn Road Thornton Heath London so maybe the Croydon address was her parents’ or a hospital of some kind?
19th June 1921 Census. Family living at 19 Headcorn Road Thornton Heath London, Evan is aged 43 a Chartered Accountant working for Hammerton & Co Ltd Brewer at Stockwell Brewery (once an old brewing company but name is now used by a hipster brewery by a distant relative), Ellen is aged 35, daughter Janet is aged 16, daughter Tryphena is aged 14, son Evan is aged 13 and son Francis is aged 3 months.
2nd July 1923 Daughter Janet dies aged 18 at 19 Headcorn Road Thornton Heath London of Pulmonary Tuberculosis (same as mother Mary). Evan was present at the death. Daughter Janet is bured in Croydon Cemetery in same grave as Mary.
18th May 1926 Daughter Sheila born at 8 Stanford Road Croydon (same address as brother Francis) but parents are still living at 19 Headcorn Road Thornton Heath London. Evan is a Brewers Accountant.
18th September 1937 Daughter Tryphena marries Lawrence William Lowe at All Saints Banstead London. Tryphena is aged 30 a Secretary living at 19 Headcorn Road Thornton Heath London and Lawrence is aged 28 an Accountant living at 27 Longcroft Avenue Banstead London. Probable best man is an Evan Mawdsley probably Tryphena’s brother (also an Accountant). Lawrence and Tryphena have 1 child and live in Ross On Wye. Tryphena dies aged 99 on 23rd September 2006 at Community Hospital Ross On Wye of Bronchopneumonia.
In Or Before 1938 Son Evan moves to Nether Stowey Bridgwater Somerset.
13th August 1938 Son Evan marries Frances Ada Swaisland at Parish Church Nether Stowey near Bridgwater Somerset. Evan is aged 30 an Accountant living in Nether Stowey and Frances is aged 28 living in Mill Hill London. Probable best man is an Evan Mawdsley and the other witness is an Ellen Jane Mawdsley, which is probably our Evan and Ellen, but it is unusual for a best man to be the groom’s father.
1939 Ellen probably moves to Nether Stowey Somerset with son Francis and daughter Sheila, because of impending war.
29th September 1939 Register. Evan is aged 62 living at 226 Fir Tree Road Banstead London, a Chartered Accountant, with daughter Tryphena and husband Lawrence. Ellen is aged 53 living at Redesdale Lime Street Nether Stowey Somerset with son Francis aged 18 an Articled Pupil to Local Authority Engineer and daughter Sheila aged 13. Son Evan is no longer living in Nether Stowey. Ellen may have moved to Nether Stowey to be away from potential bombing in London, and Evan maybe had to remain in London for his work.
18th December 1943 Son Francis marries Barbara Jean Biddiscombe at Parish Church Bridgwater Somerset. Francis is aged 22 serving in Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve living at Redesdale Nether Stowey and Barbara is aged 23 serving in Womens Royal Naval Service as a driver, living in 119 Taunton Road Bridgwater Somerset. Witnesses include Evan Mawdsley (Francis’s brother or his father?) and Ellen Mawdsley (Francis’s mother?)
In Or Before 1945 Ellen probably moves back to London with daughter Sheila.
4th June 1949 Daughter Sheila marries William John Bryant at St Paul Banstead London. Sheila is aged 33 living at 226 Fir Tree Road Banstead London (same address that Evan was living at in 1939 Register) and William is age 32, possibly a Printer, living at 14 Turner Park Road Wimbledon. A witness is Ellen Jane Mawdsley, Sheila’s mother. William becomes a Publisher’s Editor and William and Sheila live in Winchester and have 2 children. Sheila dies on 17th May 2009 aged 82 in Royal Hampshire Country Hospital Winchester of Heart Failure, she was a retired Teacher living at 17 Sermon Road Winchester.
6th April 1974 Evan dies aged 96 at James(?) Hospice Dorchester of Arteriosclerosis, his residence is unclear but has similarities with Ellen’s residence at “Holunda” North Street Blandford Forum Dorset. Informant was son Evan who lived at the same residence so Evan and Ellen must have been living with son Evan. Evan’s probate has the residence as “Holunda” North Street Winterbourne Stickland Dorset (“Holunda” being the name of the house).
13th April 1980 Ellen dies aged 94 at Royal Hampshire Country Hospital Winchester of Bronchopneumonia, residence given as “Holunda” North Street Blandford Forum Dorset. Step-son Evan was the informant living at the same address.
