31st May 1845 Evan born in Skelmersdale to Henry and Ellen Mawdsley, a Labourer.
1845 to 1847 Evan’s parents move to Wallgate Wigan with some of their children, including Evan.
12th January 1848 Jenet born in Shaw Oldham to Peter and Tryphena Hart, a Policeman (“late druggist and grocer” according to baptism record). Jenet is the name on the Birth Certificate although Janet and Jennett are used on subsequent records.
1847 to 1848 Evan’s father Henry becomes a Shopkeeper.
1861 to 1868 Evan starts work as an Iron Moulder.
20th October 1862 Evan’s father Henry dies at 43 Princess Street Wallgate aged 57. Evan is aged 17. Evan’s brother John takes over Provision Dealer business.
6th July 1866 Ellen born in Scot Lane Blackrod to Thomas and Ellen Crook a Coal Miner.
1st August 1868 Evan and Jenet married at Blackrod. Evan is aged 23 an Iron Moulder from Wigan and Jenet is aged 21 from Blackrod. Jenet’s father Peter was a Pointsman by this time.
1868 to 1871 Evan becomes a Publican at Corporation Inn Poolstock Wigan.
2nd April 1871 Census. Evan and Jenet living at Corporation Inn Poolstock Wigan. Evan is aged 26 an Innkeeper and Cowkeeper and Jenet is aged 23. A servant also lives there Catherine Ormesher aged 15.
4th December 1871 Daughter Ellen born at Corporation Inn Poolstock Wigan.
17th December 1871 Daughter Ellen baptised at St Thomas Wallgate Wigan (Evan’s parents’ church).
5th May 1873 Son Thomas born at Corporation Inn Poolstock Wigan.
19th May 1873 Son Thomas baptised at Wigan Parish Church.
27th June 1873 Son Thomas dies aged 1 month at Corporation Inn Poolstock Wigan of Jaundice. Informant was Jenet’s mother Tryphena Hart who was living at 1 Green Street Wallgate Wigan who was also present at the death.
29th June 1873 Son Thomas buried at Lower Ince Cemetery.
1873 Family move to Bowling Green Inn Swinley Wigan (and Corporation Inn Poolstock Wigan is taken over by Edward Barton, the husband of Evan’s sister Anne).

12th August 1874 Son Henry baptised at St Thomas Wallgate Wigan.
8th September 1874 Son Henry dies aged 1 month at Bowling Green Inn Swinley Wigan of Gastritis (7 days duration). Jenet was present at the death.
10th September 1874 Son Henry buried at Lower Ince Cemetery in same grave as brother Thomas.

Evan is aged 35 a Publican, Jenet is aged 33 a “Publican Wife”, daughter Ellen is aged 8, son Evan is aged 3 and daughter Tryphena is aged 2. Also living there is Tryphena Pembley aged 62 Evan’s mother in law who must have remarried. A servant Alice Catterall aged 15 is also living there.
1881 to 1883 Family moves to Fleece Hotel Central Wigan.
4th June 1883 Daughter Ellen dies aged 11 at Fleece Hotel Central Wigan of Tuberculosis.
7th June 1883 Daughter Ellen buried at Lower Ince Cemetery in same grave as siblings Thomas, Henry and Margaret. Evan and Jenet had lost 4 out of 6 children in the previous 10 years.
16th October 1889 Jenet dies aged 41 at Fleece Hotel Central Wigan of Typhoid Fever (duration 17 days). Informant was Jenet’s brother Thomas Hart who was present at the death. Evan is aged 44.
12th March 1891 Evan and Ellen married at Wigan Register Office. Evan is aged 46 a Licensed Victualler at Fleece Hotel Central Wigan and Ellen is aged 24 a Domestic Servant at Evan’s pub. Probable best man is Richard Fairhurst probably husband of Evans’ sister Mary, who was also a witness.
5th April 1891 Census. Family living at Fleece Hotel Central Wigan. Evan is aged 46 and a Licensed Victualler, Ellen is aged 24, son Evan is aged 13. Daughter Tryphena is living at 4 Alexander Road Ormskirk described as a Boarder, head of the house was a Cicely Layland aged 39 described as a Company House Keeper, maybe Tryphena was at school in Ormskirk. Also living at Fleece Hotel Central Wigan were Henry Fairhurst aged 25 a Nephew (probably the son of Evan’s sister Mary), and four servants: Annie Coleman aged 22, Charlotte Coleman aged 18, Mary E Fairclough aged 17 and Edward Fox aged 12.

7th June 1891 Daughter Ellen baptised at Wigan Parish Church.
11th November 1892 Son Henry born at 7 Market Street Central Wigan (probably address of Fleece Hotel Central Wigan).
4th December 1892 Son Henry baptised at Wigan Parish Church. Baptism transcript says residence is 7 Hallgate which is across the road from Fleece Hotel Central Wigan so is possibly an error.
26th July 1894 Daughter Janet Hart born at 7 Market Street Central Wigan (probably address of Fleece Hotel Central Wigan). Named after Evan’s first wife Jenet.
13th August 1894 Daughter Janet Hart baptised at Wigan Parish Church.
23rd December 1895 Daughter Clarissa born at 7 Market Street Central Wigan (probably address of Fleece Hotel Central Wigan).
