Occupation: Publican

Several relatives became publicans or licensed victuallers in the second half of the 19th century as the urban population grew.

• 1868 Evan Mawdsley became a publican at Corporation Inn Poolstock Wigan having previously been an Iron Moulder. He subsequently moved to Bowling Green Inn Swinley Wigan in 1873, Vine Inn Wallgate Wigan in 1877 and Fleece Hotel Central Wigan in 1881 where he remained until 1907, when he presumably retired from the business.
• 1887 Henry Harrison becomes a publican at Honeysuckle Inn Poolstock Wigan having previous been an Engine Minder. Henry continues as a publican until 1902 when he returns to being an Engine Winder.
• 1902 John Barton was a publican at Three Tuns Inn Wiend Central Wigan, until sometime before 1908 when he is recorded as being a Carter.
