Henry is a Grocer aged 27 living at 24 Harrogate Street Central Wigan, Elizabeth is aged 26 living at 48 Darlington Street Central Wigan. Elizabeth’s father John is a Colliery Manager. Henry’s brother Edward is a witness and probably best man.

1896 to 1897 Henry and Elizabeth move from Harrogate Street Central Wigan to 48 Darlington Street Central Wigan which was the same address that Elizabeth was living at when they were married, so maybe Henry and Elizabeth were living with Elizabeth’s parents. By the 1901 census Henry and Elizabeth were living at 48 Darlington Street Central Wigan alone with their family, so Elizabeth’s parents were dead or moved elsewhere.

14th May 1903 Son Evan is baptised at St Thomas Wallgate Wigan, Henry is a Milk Purveyor.

1903 to 1906 Family moves from 48 Darlington Street Central Wigan across town to Colinfield Farm Swinley Wigan. Maybe Henry’s brother Evan took over managing the Grocers at this time.

22nd July 1904 Wigan Examiner has notice “To Be Let No 7 Colinfield; at Liberty about August 12th”. Maybe “Colinfield” was the original name for Colin Street and the farm was number 7.

12th May 1906 Wigan Examiner reports that due to resignation of an existing councillor Mr Henry Barton of Colinfield Farm Swinley Wigan had been proposed for the position, one of proposers was Richard Lamb which could be Richard Lamb fellow Grocer from Harrogate Street Central Wigan and father in law of Henry’s brother Evan.

16th May 1906 Henry’s brother Evan marries Ethel Lamb at St George Central Wigan.

This was later determined to be the effect of a “drinking bout” and the man “would not touch drink again”.

25th October 1910 Wigan Examiner reports that Henry is returned unopposed as Councillor for All Saints Ward. One of proposers is R Lamb which could be Richard Lamb fellow Grocer from Harrogate Street Central Wigan and father in law of Henry’s brother Evan.

Henry is a Grocer & Potato Merchant aged 52, Elizabeth is aged 51, daughter Lillie is aged 24 doing Home Duties, son Thomas is an Engineering Student at Manchester University aged 21, son Evan is Assisting Father In Potato Trade aged 18, daughter Ellen is aged 9. 11th October 1924 Henry’s brother Evan’s wife Ethel dies at 22 Harrogate Street Central Wigan

20th January 1930 Son Thomas buried at Christ Church Parbold which is some distance from Colinfield Farm Swinley Wigan. Maybe there was some link with Henry’s brother Edward who lived in Parbold, or maybe the local church St Michael And All Angels Swinley Wigan could or would not bury son Thomas.

14th September 1945 Henry buried at Christ Church Parbold, in same plot as son Edward.

6th February 1946 Daughter Ellen marries John Desmond Curtin Groves at St John Swinley Wigan. St John is a Catholic church, maybe Ellen became Catholic to marry John. Daughter Ellen is living at Colinfield Farm Swinley Wigan aged 34 and John is living at 8 Chatsworth Road St Annes, a Bank Clerk aged 33. Ellen and John have no children and eventually live at 24 West Mount Orrell Post Wigan, with sister Lillie living at 23 West Mount Orrell Post Wigan.
