Blackrod is a small town between Wigan and Bolton, originally tied adminstratively to Wigan but now in the Metropolitan Borough Of Bolton. Its roots go back to Medieval times with possible Roman links. It became industrialised during the Industrial Revolution with mining and railways as key employers, there was also a Printworks and a Bleachworks nearby.
The main church of Blackrod is St Katharine.
See Wikipedia and GenUKI for more information.
Blackrod was the home of Richard and Mary Lamb until they moved to Central Wigan in the 1880s. The majority of their ancestors also came from Blackrod including the families Crankshaw, Winward, Bibby and Ormrod.
