Overview

Evan Barton was born in 1875 the son of a Grocer from Central Wigan. Ethel Lamb was born in 1875 the daughter of a Carpenter from Blackrod, who became a Grocer in Central Wigan. Evan and Ethel married in Blackrod in 1906 by which time they were both living in Harrogate Street Central Wigan, where they remained for the rest of their lives. They had two sons one of whom died at age 11, the other went on to have his own family, carrying the Barton surname to the present day. Ethel died in 1924 aged 49 and Evan died in 1937 aged 61.

7th December 1875 Evan born at 24 Harrogate Street Central Wigan to Thomas And Susannah Barton where Thomas is a Grocer.

1878 to 1880 Ethel’s family move from Blackrod to New Springs Wigan.

24th November 1880 Evan’s father Thomas dies at age 45, at 24 Harrogate Street Central Wigan, Evan is aged 4.

1881 to 1882 Ethel’s family move from New Springs Wigan to Central Wigan.

September to December 1883 Ethel’s family move to 19 Harrogate Street Central Wigan, Ethel is aged 8.

11th February 1891 Evan’s mother Susannah dies at age 47 at 24 Harrogate Street Central Wigan, Evan is aged 14.

16th May 1906 Evan and Ethel marry at St George Central Wigan. Evan is aged 30, a Grocer from 24 Harrogate Street Central Wigan and Ethel Lamb is aged 30, a Tailoress from 19 Harrogate Street Central Wigan.

23rd June 1907 Son Norman Richard born at 24 Harrogate Street Central Wigan Central Wigan where Evan is a Master Provision Dealer.

19th August 1910 Son Colin Lamb born at 24 Harrogate Street where Evan is a Master Grocer.

2nd April 1911 Census. Family living at 20-24 Harrogate Steet Central Wigan where Evan is a Grocer aged 35, Ethel is aged 35, Norman is aged 3 and Colin is aged 7 months.

16th December 1919 Ethel’s mother Mary dies at 19 Harrogate Street Central Wigan aged 76.

19th June 1921 Census. Family living at 22 Harrogate Street Central Wigan where Evan is a Grocer’s Manager aged 45, Ethel is aged 45, Norman is aged 13 and Colin is aged 10.

15th July 1922 Son Colin dies at 24 Harrogate Street Central Wigan, aged 11, due to Suffocating As Result Of A Seizure.

19th July 1922 Son Colin buried at St Katherine Blackrod.

1922 Ethel has operation for Breast Cancer, according to death certificate.

28th December 1923 Ethel’s father Richard dies at 19 Harrogate Street Central Wigan aged 76.

11th October 1924 Ethel dies at 22 Harrogate Street Central Wigan, aged 49, from Breast Cancer. Informant is her son Norman aged 16, who was not present at the death.

15th October 1924 Ethel buried at St Katherine Blackrod.

2nd May 1935 Son Norman marries Marian Heaton at Holy Trinity Garswood.

26th December 1936 Son Norman and wife Marian have son Colin Neil.

8th February 1937 Evan dies at 22 Harrogate Street Central Wigan, aged 61, of Influenza, Evan had been working as a Grocer. Son Norman is present at the death.

11th February 1937 Evan buried at St Katherine Blackrod.
