Margaret Brown was born in 1885 the daughter of a Farm Labourer from St Helens. Banks Heaton was born in 1886 the son of a Colliery Manager from Haydock. Banks and Margaret married in 1910 at Holy Trinity Garswood and lived in Garswood for most of their lives. Banks was a clerk on the Railway, working in Central Wigan. They had 2 children who both started their own families. Banks died in 1966 and Margaret in 1975.

1st October 1885 Margaret born in “City” Windle St Helens to Thomas and Elizabeth Brown, father Thomas is a Farm Labourer.
10th March 1886 Banks born in Slag Lane Haydock to John and Hannah Heaton, father John is a Colliery Underlooker. The name “Banks” is a name used multiple times by the Houghton family of Banks’ mother Hannah.
13th August 1896 Margaret’s father Thomas dies aged 37, Margaret is aged 10.
31st March 1901 Census. Margaret aged 15 is working at Railway Hotel Garswood as a Domestic Servant, the hotel is run by William Brown Littler, Margaret’s Father’s brother (Margaret’s Father was born illegitimate so took the surname Brown from his mother).
19th January 1910 Banks and Margaret marry at Holy Trinity Garswood. Banks is a clerk from Garswood aged 23, Margaret is still living an Railway Hotel Garswood aged 24 but certificate does not say whether she was still a Domestic Servant, the assumption is that she was.
3rd June 1910 Daughter Marian is born at 270 Liverpool Road Haydock, 5 months after her parents’ marriage. Father Banks is a Railway Clerk.
2nd April 1911 Census. Family living at 270 Liverpool Road Haydock, Banks is a Railway Clerk aged 25, Margaret is aged 25, Marian is aged 10 months.
24th April 1911 Banks’ sister Jane marries William Lawrenson at Holy Trinity Garswood.
1911 to 1915 Family move to 5 Victoria Road Garswood where Banks and Margaret live for the rest of their lives.
12th December 1912 Banks’ brother Herbert marries Ada Billinge at Wigan Register Office.
21st February 1915 Banks’ brother Herbert’s wife Ada dies.
2nd April 1915 Son Clifford Banks born at 5 Victoria Road Garswood.
29th March 1916 Banks is present at the death of his Grandmother Martha Houghton, from Shock due to a Broken Femur, who was living at Banks’ old address of 270 Liverpool Road Haydock.
19th December 1917 Banks is present at the death of his father John in Haydock.
4th May 1918 Margaret’s Brown/Littler cousin John Edward Littler dies in France of wounds received whilst serving.
6th June 1919 Margaret’s mother Elizabeth dies at 203 College Street Central St Helens.
2nd July 1919 Banks’ brother Thomas marries Lily Littler at Holy Trinity Garswood. Lily Littler is Margaret’s Brown/Littler cousin, and Lily was still living at Railway Hotel Garswood.
3rd November 1919 Banks (and probably his wife Margaret) are witnesses at his brother John’s second marriage to Ann Smith at Holy Trinity Garswood.
19th June 1921 Census. Family living at 5 Victoria Road Garswood, Banks is a Goods Clerk working for LNW Railway in Central Wigan aged 35, Margaret is aged 35, Marian is aged 11 and Clifford is aged 6.
26th December 1922 Banks’ brother Herbert marries his second wife Margaret Eccles in Liverpool.
23rd May 1923 Margaret’s brother Edward dies in St Helens aged 34.
10th October 1928 Banks’ sister Margaret dies in Birmingham.
2nd April 1930 Banks’ mother Hannah dies in Haydock.

2nd May 1935 Daughter Marian marries Norman Barton probably at Holy Trinity Garswood. They live in Orrell Post Wigan.
26th December 1936 Daughter Marian and husband Norman have son Colin Neil Barton.
29th September 1939 Register. Banks, Margaret and Clifford living at 5 Victoria Road Garswood, Clifford is an Assistant Grocer.
26th January 1940 Margaret’s Brown aunt (by marriage) Esther Littler (who employed her at Railway Hotel Garswood) dies in Garswood aged 79.
27th September 1941 Son Clifford marries Ethel Goulding at Sutton Parish Church St Helens. Clifford is a Shop Manager living at 5 Victoria Road Garswood aged 26 and Ethel is living at 67 Junction Lane Sutton St Helens aged 25. Witness and probable best man is sister Marian’s husband Norman.
2nd January 1942 Banks’ brother John’s daughter Nellie found drowned in nearby Pewfall Reservoir. Last seen on 31st December 1941 when she went to “visit an aunt”, possibly Margaret.
27 June 1946 Margaret’s Brown uncle William Brown Littler (who employed her at Railway Hotel Garswood) dies in Garswood aged 83.
27th September 1952 Bank’s brother Herbert dies in Liverpool aged 61.
14th February 1954 Banks’ brother Henry dies in Liverpool aged 76.
22nd January 1958 Banks’ brother John dies in Garswood aged 84.
12th June 1958 Banks’ sister Martha dies in Burnley aged 82.
23rd September 1958 Margaret’s cousin Lily Heaton (nee Littler, also Banks’ sister in law) dies aged 68 in Liverpool.
17th June 1960 Banks’ brother Thomas dies in Garswood aged 71.
8th June 1965 Margaret’s brother John dies in St Helens aged 84.
2nd October 1966 Banks dies aged 80 at 5 Victoria Road Garswood of a Cerebral Haemorrhage, with son Clifford present at the death.
27th January 1972 Margaret’s sister Annie dies in Haydock, aged 89.
8th February 1972 Banks’ sister Jane dies in Haydock, aged 88.
24th July 1974 Margaret’s brother Thomas dies in St Helens, aged 82.
