Overview
Sydney Lamb was born in 1883 the son of a Joiner in Central Wigan (who later became a Grocer). Catherine Myers was born in 1885 the daughter of an Iron Moulder in Central Wigan. They married in 1910 at Wigan Parish Church and lived in Scholes Wigan with Sydney working as a Journeyman Upholsterer. They had 5 children who all married, the two boys having descendants that carry the Lamb surname to the present day. Catherine died in 1950 aged 64 and Sydney died in 1965 aged 82.

16th May 1910 Sydney and Catherine marry at Wigan Parish Church Sydney is a Upholsterer aged 26 and Catherine a Tailoress aged 24.
1910 Family start life in Darlington Street Central Wigan, which is close to Sydney’s parent’s home in Harrogate Street Central Wigan.
31st October 1910 Daughter Phyllis born at 3 Parrs Court Darlington Street Central Wigan. Sydney is a Journeyman Upholsterer.
2nd April 1911 Census. Family living at 3 Parrs Court Darlington Street Central Wigan. Sydney is an Upholsterer aged 27, Catherine is aged 25.
1911 to 1912 Family move a short distance from Darlington Street Central Wigan to Atherton Street which is almost certainly the one off Harrogate Street Central Wigan (there is another Atherton Street in Newtown Wigan).
12th October 1912 Son Eric born at 13 Atherton Street Central Wigan, Sydney is a Journeyman Upholsterer.
17th May 1915 Daughter Ruth born at 13 Atherton Street Central Wigan, Sydney is a Master Upholsterer (which means he had people working under him).
3rd September 1918 Son Reginald born at 13 Atherton Street Central Wigan, Sydney is a Journeyman Upholsterer.
19th June 1921 Census. Family living at 13 Atherton Street Central Wigan. Sydney is an Upholsterer aged 37 working on “Own Account” at “No Fixed Place”, Catherine is aged 35.
6th January 1922 Daughter Grace born at 13 Atherton Street Central Wigan, Sydney is a Master Upholsterer.

28th March 1936 Son Eric marries Annie Pilkington at Chapel Lane Presbyterian Wallgate Wigan (maybe Annie was the Presbyterian). Eric is a Gas Fitter aged 23 from 6 Florrie Street Scholes Wigan and Annie a Hosiery Worker aged 22 from 58 Linney Street Scholes Wigan. Sydney is an Upholsterer.
1936 to 1941 Sydney switches to work as a Shop Assistant. Shop not specified, could be a furniture shop or possibly the Grocer shop run by sister Evelyn.
30th July 1941 Son Reginald marries May Anglesea at St Thomas Wallgate Wigan. Reginald is a Shoe Maker aged 22 from 6 Florrie Street Scholes Wigan and May is aged 21 from 45 James Street Wallgate WIgan. Sydney is a Shop Assistant. Witnesses included daughter Grace.
1941 to 1944 Sydney switches to work as a Piano Repairer.
17th May 1944 Daughter Grace marries Leslie James Seddon at Chapel Lane Presbyterian Wallgate Wigan (maybe the Lamb family were presbyterian by this time). Grace is a Sheet Metal Worker aged 22 living at 6 Florrie Street Scholes Wigan, Leslie a Draughtsman at Beech Hill Royal Ordnance Factory (where his father was the Chief Fire Officer) aged 21, living in Beech Hill Wigan. Sydney is a Piano Repairer. Witnesses include sister Ruth. Grace and Leslie have 2 children and move to Preston. Grace dies 18th November 1994 aged 72 at St Catherine Hospice Lostock Hall of Metastatic Malignant Melanoma, whilst living at Garstang Road Preston. Leslie dies in 2004.
14th March 1946 Daughter Phyllis marries Albert Harry Boultwood at Chapel Lane Presbyterian Wallgate Wigan. Phyllis is a Stenographer aged 35 living at 6 Florrie Street Scholes Wigan, Albert a Bandsman in the army aged 31 stationed at Gibraltar Barracks Bury St Edmunds. Sydney occupation given as Piano Work. Witnesses include sister Ruth. Phyllis and Albert have no children and move to Preston at some stage. Phyllis dies 25th November 1972 aged 62 at 3 Shalgrove Field Fulwood of Stomach Cancer. Albert dies 6th January 1992 at the same address.
19th January 1950 Catherine dies at 6 Florrie Street Scholes Wigan aged 64 of Virus Pneumonia. Sydney is a Piano Repairer.
6th June 1951 Daughter Ruth marries William David Edwards at King Street Baptist Central Wigan (which hints that Ruth was now a baptist). Ruth is a Book Binder aged 36 living at 6 Florrie Street Scholes Wigan, William is widowed and a Journeyman Book Binder aged 47 living at 286 Miles Lane Shevington. Sydney is a Piano Repairer. Witnesses include sister Phyllis. Ruth and William have no children and live in Appley Bridge. Ruth dies 8th April 1983 aged 67 at Billinge Hospital of Chronic Renal Failure, prior to retirement she worked as a Office Clerk Mail Order Stores, her residence given as 7 Whitehall Avenue Appley Bridge. William died 8th April 1983 at the same address.
1951 Onwards Sydney living alone. Moves to Ince Wigan.
1950s A daughter of Norman Richard Barton remembers visiting a shop in Blackrod run by sisters of Phyllis (so probably Ruth and Grace) but no evidence can be found of this. Norman Richard Barton was the cousin of Sydney Lamb’s children.
22nd December 1965 Sydney dies at 93 Bird Street Ince Wigan aged 82 of Coronary Thrombosis. Son Eric was present at the death.
