(See Hundreds And Parishes for background of Parish organisation)
St Oswald Winwick is an ancient parish which used to span Ashton In Makerfield and Garswood. It is mentioned in the Domesday book and parts of the present church date from the 13th Century.
For more information see Wikipedia and Lancashire OnLine Parish Clerks.
Until the St Oswald parish was split up in the 1830s various ancestors had ceremonies here (even though no ancestors ever lived in Winwick).
