Places: St James The Great Haydock

(See Hundreds And Parishes for background of Parish organisation)

St James The Great is the parish church of Haydock, it was consecrated in 1866 (having been built as part of the existing school house) when the new parish was established, presumably before that Haydock was part of an ancient parish, possibly St Oswald Winwick.

For more information see Wikipedia.

A number of ancestors based in Haydock used the church for ceremonies. In 1883 a child of John And Hannah Heaton that had been baptised at St James The Great was buried at St Thomas Ashton In Makerfield so perhaps St James The Great was not licensed for burials at that time, maybe there was no graveyard.
