Scholes is a district to the immediate east of Central Wigan bounded by Longshoot Bowling Greens and Platt Lane Playing Field to the north, the Leeds & Liverpool Canal to the east and south and the River Douglas to the west. The main road through the district is also called Scholes.
Scholes is an ancient neighbourhood that once had a lot of industry but now is mainly residential and commercial.
The parish church of Scholes is St Catherine.
