Places: Martins House Dalton

According to the 1851 Census Thomas Barton lived in Dalton at a dwelling reasonably transcribed as “Martains House” with his grandfather Evan Mawdsley (and other descendents of Evan). “Martains House” cannot be located on the 1848 map but there is a “Martin’s Farm” towards Appley Bridge.

The 1851 census entries before and after the “Martains House” entry for Thomas Barton are difficult to read but do confirm that “Martains House” was in the vicinity of Lees Lane, Cross House and Hey Lane

There are various second hand references to Martin’s Farm Dalton in the modern day, see Zoopla for example, which indicates it was last sold in 2019 (and there is also a reference to “Cross House Farm”).
