Places: Lamb Provision Dealers

Some time between 1883 and 1885 Richard Lamb set up a Grocer business at 19 Harrogate Street Central Wigan. Prior to that Richard had been a Joiner.

Richard is also referred to as a Provision Dealer, a Shop Keeper and a Baker.

Richard died in 1923, after 40 years running the business. The business was taken over by his daughter Evelyn and by 1935 Evelyn was living alone at 19 Harrogate Street Central Wigan as all her siblings had married or died.

By the early 1960s most of Harrogate Street Central Wigan had been demolised so the Grocer business would have been wound up before this, Evelyn was also elderly by this date. A comment on Wigan World dated 2012 says “Then there was Miss Lamb’s shop in Harrogate Street. Do you remember that?”. Evelyn died in 1974.

No artifacts from the Lamb Provision Dealer business can be found on the internet.
