    Some time between 1898 and 1899 Edward Barton started his own Clothier business after being an assistant clothier.

    All references to the business place it at 17-19 Makinsons Arcade Central Wigan.

    This is a photo from 1913 when Edward would have had his shop there.

    There are several references to the shop in the Wigan papers.

    Edward obviously had trouble finding “smart youths”.

    Edward died in 1930 when his business is likely to have been wound up as his only son’s occupation was a Solicitor, but no record of this can be found on the internet.
