Overview

Ada Billinge was born in 1885 the daughter of a Surface Foreman from Haydock. Margaret Eccles was born in 1888 the daughter of Storekeeper from Liverpool. Herbert Heaton was born in 1891 the son of a Colliery Underlooker from Haydock. Herbert and Ada married in 1912 at Wigan Register Office, they had no children and Ada died in 1915. Herbert married Margaret in 1922, they had one son who had his own family but did not pass the Heaton surname to the present day. Herbert died in 1952 and Margaret died in 1962.

9th June 1885 Ada Billinge born at 19 Lyme Street Haydock daughter of Jacob Billinge a Surface Foreman.

5th February 1888 Margaret Eccles born, daughter of James Eccles a Storekeeper.

24th June 1891 Herbert born at Pewfall Colliery Haydock, father John is a Colliery Underlooker.

12th December 1912 Herbert marries Ada Billinge at Wigan Register Office. Herbert is a Colliery Clerk living at 202 Tithebarn Road Haydock aged 21, Ada is living at The Willows Clipsley Lane Haydock aged 23.

1912 To 1915 Herbert and Ada move into 85 Church Road Haydock.

21st February 1915 Ada dies at 85 Church Road Haydock of Valvular Disease Of Heart, aged 29. Herbert is a Colliery Clerk.

1st May 1915 Herbert signs up to the armed services for the First World War. His address is given as 202 Tithebarn Road Haydock, which is his parents’ house, maybe he moved back there after Ada died. He is a Clerk aged 23. He has “mole front of each clavicle”.

22nd December 1915 Herbert disembarks at Port Said, he is a Corporal.

9th March 1916 Herbert disembarks at Marseille.

6th October 1916 Herbert reverted from Corporal to Bombardier.

6th June 1917 Herbert has leave in UK for ten days.

6th October 1917 Herbert promoted to Corporal again.

25th December 1917 Herbert has leave in UK for two weeks.

1st July 1918 Herbert has leave to Paris for 7 days.

4th August 1918 Harbert admitted to base hospital.

4th January 1919 Herbert embarks for UK.

1919 To 1921 Herbert moves to Liverpool and becomes a Police Constable.

19th June 1921 Census. Herbert is living at 174 Molyneux Road Liverpool, a Police Constable aged 29. His landlady is Margaret Gorton a widow with two daughters.

25th April 1922 Herbert writes to get his First World War medals.

26th December 1922 Herbert marries his landlady Margaret Gorton nee Eccles at St Helen Liverpool. Herbert is a Police Constable aged 31 and Margaret is aged 33, they are both still living at 174 Molyneux Road Liverpool.

16th June 1925 Son Herbert is born at 174 Molyneux Road Liverpool, father Herbert is a Police Constable.

29th September 1939 Register. Father Herbert, Margaret and Margaret’s two daughters from her previous marriage are living at 4 Phillimore Road Liverpool. Father Herbert is a Police Constable aged 48 and Margaret is aged 51. Son Herbert is living at 22 Maesydre Greenfield Ruthin (North Wales) aged 14. Second World War child evacuations started on 1st September (two days before war was declared) so maybe son Herbert had been evacuated.

20th August 1949 Son Herbert marries Davina Hughes at St Margaret Walton On The Hill. Herbert is a Clerk living at 73 Cumbria Street Liverpool aged 24, Davina is a Typist living at the same address aged 25. Father Herbert is a retired Police Constable.

27th September 1952 Father Herbert dies at 4 Phillimore Road Liverpool of Congestive Cardiac Failure aged 61. Son Herbert is present at the death.

2nd January 1962 Margaret dies at 4 Phillimore Road Liverpool of Senile Myocarditis aged 73. Son Herbert is present at the death.
